About La Libélula Cooperative
La Libélula Cooperative is a collective of Spanish speaking immigrants from Latin America working toward an inclusive future for Latin American communities in British Columbia. We strive to increase visibility, connectedness, and engagement for our communities through Art programs, events and placemaking. We want to contribute to conversations about Latin American representation in British Columbia to increase inclusivity and opportunity for Latin Americans living here.
About the Exhibit
Voices of Self-Love is a group exhibition that celebrates the journey of self-love through stories of acceptance, belonging, nurture, and transformation. In April 2024, twelve Latin American women came together at a local community center to engage in creative writing, painting, and sculpture sessions, sharing their unique journeys of self-love. This art program was led by Artist and Art Educator Carolina Aguirre and supported by La Libelula Cooperative.
Inspired by these powerful narratives, the exhibition features the work of twelve artists who capture the essence of each participant's story. Our goal is to empower these women and foster connections among those navigating similar paths of self-discovery and healing.
This collaborative effort will culminate in an exhibit at the Britannia Gallery, where we will celebrate the beauty and strength found in self-love and community. Join us in honoring these voices and experience the transformative power of art.
Update - Monday January 20th 2025:
Due to scheduling conflicts we will have to cancel the Artist talk which was supposed to happen this Wednesday January 29th from 6-7:30PM in the gallery. The Artist talk was for the current exhibit ( Voices of self-love by La Libelula ) The show will be up int the gallery until Friday January 31st for those who have not had the chance to see it. All of that said we would like to give thanks to Libelula and everyone who was involved in the current Exhibit.
We were looking forward to the Artist talk but things happen, we have lots of amazing gallery shows and Alcoves installations, workshops and other Artist talks lined up for this yr.
