Artist Statement
Tristan Henry was born in Calgary, Alberta. He's Tukudh, which is a dialect from Tr'ondèk Hwèch in First Nation (People of the River) located in Dawson City, Yukon. Wolf clan on his fathers side and Norwegian and Scottish on his mothers side. He is one of the founders of Nations Skate Youth. Skateboarding for 19 years, Tristan knows it to be the most positive outlet in his life. Recently, he re-found his passion in photography - finding it's a great way to highlight his friends and family in the community. He's also enjoyed the opportunity to put on grip tape art and skateboarding workshops the last couple of years. In the future, he hopes to have more experiences like these that continue to inspire the next generation of young leaders. Tristan believes it is important to recognize that the youth are our future and that it takes a community to help rise a child. Tristan has completed a Family and Community counselling certificate course at Native Education Collage (NEC). Since completing this course, He works at Kilala Lulem as a Cultural Wellness Worker, helping to support the member of the downtown east side with daily workshops like drum making and beading during the weekdays.
