Katalina Guerrero | Artist Statement
Katalina Guerrero’s artistic work explores the subjective experiences of embodied existence, making tangible or visible the qualities, feelings and ideas that we come into contact with through our own bodies as we move about the world. Her artistic practice is centered around expanding her own awareness and understanding of her own lived experience in order to connect with others. Many of her paintings and textile collages include abstractions of the human body which attempt to connect, communicate and bring the viewer into awareness of their own embodied experience.
I´LL BE ANYTHING YOU NEED, Katalina´s most recent body of work, aims to share the beauty, challenges and uniqueness of being an only parent. This collection explores and shares different aspects of motherhood with an emphasis on felt sense and embodied experience. The result is a series of imaginary figures with shape-shifting identities that change with their environment. Each of these pieces contains personal stories about our search for connection and meaning, about finding stability, about facing fears, and embracing vulnerability.

Victoria Mitchell | Artist Statement
Through visual expressions, I’m drawn to the exploration of interconnectedness between human form, and other natural entities. There is a profound fascination within me for portraying intangible networks and energies that interweave and interconnect "everything with everything” within us and surrounding us. In essence, my art serves as a conduit, bridging the gaps between humanity, nature, and the environment. It acts as a visual language through which I can express concerns, spark conversations, and inspire change. Every intricate detail, carries within it a message of interconnectedness and an invitation to explore the web of life that surrounds us. Artwork holds some of my most meditative, peaceful, and content ways of being in quiet, solitary times. I greatly value the opportunity to share with others who see into what has emerged creatively. Through my art, I hope to awaken a sense of responsibility and appreciation for the delicate balance that exists between ourselves and the world we inhabit. The opportunity for introspection and the sharing of what emerges, brings me excitement and joy in the creation of each piece.
Short Bio
Victoria was raised in Vancouver BC. Struggling with shyness, she found a comfortable way to relate with subjects and adults through art. She was consequently given opportunities to attend workshops and receive private instruction from local teachers and career artists. Victoria's formal studies began with classical still life in oil paint. Next she explored materials in a less structured way, incorporating anatomical movement and free expression in charcoal and other media. Over time Victoria found her own balance between realism and the abstract. Victoria predominantly shied away from attention to her artwork, and focused on a career as a Registered Massage Therapist for 22 years. The creation of a home art studio in 2014 broadened and enriched her explorations in abstract/representational mixed media. She began showing her paintings in 2017. This was a tremendously important step to not conceal, but rather to develop creative expressions...and share these experiences with others.
Victoria is continually inspired by her past work in massage and teaching yoga, finding unique visual representations of the physical and emotional. Earlier formal teachings stressing the critical importance of technique, material and realism were good foundations for her artistic endeavours. Venturing on to also explore further into the abstract, has been important for Victoria, in discovering broader avenues through art. She is also very much influenced by the natural elements of our surroundings, flora and landscapes globally, and environmental concerns. Since 2017 Victoria has been enjoying sharing her work in galleries and exhibitions in Canada and internationally, along with the great pleasure of broadening communications with those who connect with what she creates.
