Artist Statement

Karen Garry founded Heart Shaped Rawk in 2016 with the mandate to create heartfelt stories that were environmentally sound, ecologically conscious and forward thinking. Focusing on using non-violent communication, humour and philosophical musings along with thoughts on capitalism, social structure, sustainability, cooperation, metaphysics and the meaning of life to entertain, enlighten, enliven and elevate the world around her, she created and introduced Leroy, the lion, in this first of a six book series. Alliteration was a side effect.
Fascinated with the ways in which we live, work and play and how they reflect and influence our existence, while feeling dismayed by the current state of affairs in a mass marketed global economy insistent on expansion, labeling it progress, and requiring mass resource extraction and land reformation which in turn is clearly threatening to rip out our very existence, Karen felt compelled to be mindful in finding solutions. Determined to use her skills in sculpture, writing, drawing and painting, (and possibly even incorporating her love of music,) Karen set out to explore ways to make the world a better place, while creating beautiful, well loved stories that inspire and excite readers of all ages, again and again.
